Every Man Is An Island

I stand by that. But clearly some men are island chains. Underneath, they are connected...

Who are you?

I've been wondering lately about a state of being known as the drunken personality. Why do people act like they do when they are drunk? When I say drunk I do not mean wasted, but rather moderately intoxicated. That means no blacking out. There are many types of drunk personalities. Some people merely become a more exaggerated version of themselves while others appear to be bipolar.

I believe that there is a reasonable theory to all of this. I believe that the drunken personality is the real personality. It is one that is not inhibited by social rules, is not afraid, and does not care what others think. It does whatever it feels.

It is not like alcohol can somehow take over somebody and possess them. Being drunk can not make a new personality, unless you truly are a nut. If that is the case then please have mercy, my name is Craig Lewandowski. One's drunken personality must be innate. It very well could be that a person doesn't even know they have that side too them because it has been repressed so deeply. But generally one should not be surprised by this personality nor should they be ashamed.

There are often concerns about ones judgement. It is understandable that if one is wasted, then judgement may truly be impaired. But just being drunk and consciously remembering the decision that was made is not grounds for excuse making. You know what you are doing. There's no, " I would have never done that if I weren't drunk." There is only, "I would have never done that if I weren't trashed and couldn't see anymore."

Another point is that if people are truly friends and know each other, then there should be no problem with drinking together. It should not be that one person doesn't like the others drunk personality. If that is the case, then they are really deluding themselves. If you like somebody when you are drunk, then you will like them when you are sober. If you hate somebody when you are drunk, you'll hate them when you are sober.

So stop living in denial and fear. Stop caring about what others think. Be free of inhibition.

You are not your job. You are not how much money you have in the bank. You are not the car you drive. You are not the contents of your wallet. You are not your fucking khakis. You are just you. So be it.

Now stop reading this.
