Last night I watched Celebrity Poker Showdown on Bravo. I watched the episode where Maura Tierney goes shot for shot with those suck faces, namely James Blake, and takes them all down to advance to the Champions Round.
Next came the Champions Round with Rosario Dawson; who I have just finally been clued in was in 25th Hour and He Got Game; Ian Michael Black, from Ed and all of those VH1 countdown specials; Lauren Graham, from The Gilmore Girls and a brief stint on my beloved News Radio; Maura Tierney, from ER and once again News Radio; and Dule Hill, from the West Wing. Sorry Dule, but I don't know how to put the accent mark above the e. This turned into quite a serious battle compared to the earlier rounds which were full of laughter and harmless ribbing. The only one making jokes was Michael Ian Black, but those were few and far between.
I found it awkward that the winner of the first Champions Round, the blond girl from Mad TV who my roommate describes as "just keeps getting bigger and bigger," was hanging out in the Losers Lounge with the host, Dave Foley, and the pro, Phil. I don't know Phil's last name, but does that really matter in the grand scheme of things? Anyway, doesn't the Mad TV girl have something better to do than to show up for a guest spot, which turned out to be quite a brief one at that.
Well, in the end it was heads up girl on girl action between Lauren and Maura. When Dave came out to dispense drinks and humor reminiscent of the Kids in the Hall days, it was like a glorious mini News Radio reunion. It pains my heart to think that the first and second seasons won't be release for sooooooo long.
It seemed that Lauren was never able to figure out any of Maura’s tells and eventually bowed out. I am left to conclude that women are much more adept at concealing the truth and manipulating than men. One should be weary when engaging in poker with them because they may try to use their feminine powers for evil.
Sadly Ian Michael Black was let down by the unworldly David Copperfield and his crotch. Is there no justice?
I can't wait for the next round.
